ABOUT

Le Chêne Vert pots and urns are made in a family workshop in the township of Anduze in southern France. The pots are hand-thrown and rope-thrown in the traditional style made famous by the reputation of the Anduze vase, the workshop innovating, but proudly defending French manufacture of unparalleled quality.

The artisans draw inspiration from the centuries-old history of gardens and glazed terracotta and have supplied their products to the Chateau de Versailles, the Mairie de Montpellier, the Mairie de Nice Côte d’Azur and Chateau de Flaugergues as well as to many other notable locations.

According to the legend: captured by the elegance of a Tuscany Medicis urn while visiting a fair in the city of Beaucaire in 1610, a potter was inspired to create the first Anduze planter which definitely combines in its design a subtle mix of Italian expansiveness and French austerity from the Cévennes. Primarily designed to host orange and lemon trees in order to embellish aristocratic properties, Anduze planters quickly became flagships of French Southern gardens as true symbols of prestige and elegance. They are exported over the world today.

Glazed pots all have crazing which is almost invisible to the eye but can become more apparent over time with the build-up of mineral deposits from the potting mix which seep through the sides of the pot. This is easily removed by lightly rubbing with dry fine steel wool available from all hardware stores. The use of this fine steel wool will remove the mineral deposits and not damage the glaze.

It should be noted that these pots are not considered completely frost proof in Europe and North America. but heavy European style frosts are not usually a problem in most populated areas of Australia.

To clean use a mild soapy water and a soft bristle brush or rag. Avoid harsh chemical and abrasives.

Finishes may vary from those shown in picture.
