Gardenias are favourites in subtropical gardens, loved for their highly perfumed white flowers and glossy leaves.

Gardenia magnifica is the largest of the gardenias, this magnificent plant can grow up to 2 meters tall, showcasing large, double white flowers with a strong, sweet fragrance in late spring and summer. Its glossy, dark green leaves add to its lush appeal, making it a perfect choice for Brisbane gardens.

Ideal for hedging, whether formal or informal, Gardenia magnifica also works beautifully as a feature plant in garden beds or large planters. For hedging, space plants 75 cm to 1 meter apart for the best coverage. Lightly prune after flowering to maintain its shape.

This gardenia thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers slightly acidic soil with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Be sure to feed it with Azalea and Camellia fertilizer, and mulch well to keep the soil moist and healthy. A simple pH test kit can help ensure the soil conditions are just right for this magnificent plant.
