The elegant Phalaenopsis Orchid makes a gorgeous addition to any home or office, with its long stems, dainty wing-like flowers, and deep green foliage. Due to their long-lasting blooms, Phalaenopsis Orchids are a very popular present.

Display your orchid in a warm, well-lit position. Avoid direct sunlight and drafts. Water thoroughly once a week in Summer but less in Winter. Make sure it drains well, never let your orchid sit in water.

Check the roots below soil level, if the roots have a green tinge the plant in healthy and receiving enough water. If the roots are grey or white the orchid needs watering. Roots above the potting mix will be grey or white, this is normal.

When your orchid has finished flowering cut back the stem and move to shady place in the garden. Give a light feed with a Brookfield Garden Orchid Food to encourage flowering.

As depicted in many of the photos here of orchids growing on palm trees around a swimming pool in Brisbane. Try growing orchid on trees, it's their natural conditions. Just tie on the bundle of moss and roots with stretchy material to keep them attached and they will soon grow roots to hold in place.

Potted orchids must be grown in special orchid mix.
