What Mulch should I use?

A good gardening tip to remember is the best time to mulch is after good soaking rain. Watch the above video to find out what type of mulch to use and where.

Mulching will help your garden to thrive, and there are 4 main reasons why it does this.

1. Water conservation. Mulch stops the top of the soil drying out and can reduce watering by up to 60%
2. Prevents weeds and weed seed germination, which also compete for moisture and nutrients
3. Maintains a consistent soil temperature
4. If using an organic mulch it will add extra organic matter to the soil, in turn helping to improve soil structure.

Sugar Cane
An organic locally sourced sustainable product, sugar cane looks very similar to hay. An excellent mulch for the vegetable garden and around fruit trees. If mulching large areas, it is cost effective. As it breaks down it adds organic matter to your soil, improving the soil structure and promoting earthworms in the soil. Our Sugar Cane Mulch is clean, chopped finely and weed free. Jumbo Bale spreads to 12sqm (spread at 40mm thick)

Lucerne
If you really want the best mulch for your vegetable garden and fruit trees, then we would recommend using Lucerne mulch. As the mulch breaks down it adds extra nitrogen and potassium into the soil for up to 6 months. Roses also love being mulched with Lucerne. Each bale spreads 6sqm (spread at 50-75mm thick)

Tea Tree Mulch
A dark rich coloured mulch that enhances the look of a garden. It is 100% organic and environmentally friendly, as it is made from the by-product of Tea Tree Oil production. Suitable for ornamental gardens, native gardens and can be used on the top of pots. Each bale spreads to 4sqm.

Cypress Mulch
This organic mulch is a natural termite deterrent, excellent for garden beds close to the house. Particularly good around acid loving plants like Camellias, Azaleas and Gardenias. Cypress mulch breaks down very slowly, enriching the soil through microbial activity. Each bag spreads 2-3sqm.

Who Flung Dung
This is a super mulch (with a super name!). Whoflungdung is a composted mulch which is biologically activated adding valuable nutrients to your soil, enhancing the health and growth of plants. It's great for your high feeders such as roses, fruit trees and veggie gardens.
