My name is Jeffrey de Jong, and I am Mister Botanical.
My story started far away in the Netherlands, a long time ago when I was about to turn 13 years old. I started working for a family friend in a flower shop and fell in love with the industry and all the beautiful flowers. When I finished high school I decided to follow my dreams of becoming a florist and started my official training in Rijnsburg.
Getting further into my career and education with my first Diploma in the floral industry, I started to understand the wide emotion attached to flowers. Because of this connection, customer service is as equally as important to me as the flowers themselves.
I continued to do a further 2 diplomas in floristry, and during my last year of education I started working for a florist in Amsterdam South called MC Bloom. That was the time I realised what kind of florist I wanted to be. I learned to care for the flowers in a gentle caring way. Creatively it defined my style, they taught me that every flower should have its place in the bouquet where it would show its true beauty and has the space to bloom.
After working in Amsterdam for a few years I decided to come to Australia and explore this country - only for a year…this was 9 years ago. I fell in love with this country and decided to stay.
The Australian lifestyle, and its floral industry took me a while to adjust to, but now I can’t see myself anywhere else. What has really surprised and delighted me is the amount of flower growers here in Australia that are able to deliver fresh, local flowers.
After 8 years of managing 3 different flower shops in the inner-city suburbs of Brisbane, I knew it would be time to spread my wings and start my own business.
And Mister Botanical was born.
